This abstract realism painting of a big gelding is painted on a 24x30" canvas with deep, 1.5" sides that are painted black.
Gestural marks made in acrylic, ink and graphite add motion to this otherwise calm depiction of a horse that seems he's perhaps a bit long in the tooth.
When I was growing up, my horse's name was Buddy. He was an old sorrel gelding, trusty and hard-working. He had a big heart, but sad-looking eyes--just like Big Blue. I think Buddy's sad eyes found their way into this painting, and every time I look at this, his gleaming eyes make me smile.
